Volkswagen to Unveil New Golf GTI Clubsport

The new Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport will debut on May 31 (2024), before the Nürburgring 24-hour race. Given the recent downsizing of the North American Golf lineup, it seems likely that this new Clubsport variant will not be available in that market.
A Powerful Front-Wheel-Drive GTI
The previous Clubsport model debuted in 2021 to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the GTI. This new model coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Golf. Volkswagen has announced that the new Clubsport will be the most potent front-wheel-drive Golf ever, though specific details still need to be provided.
The 2024 GTI sold in the U.S. currently produces 241 horsepower, with the 2025 model slated for several updates. The European-spec version offers 262 horsepower, while the Golf R delivers 315 horsepower with its exclusive all-wheel-drive system. The 2021 Clubsport was closer in power to the Golf R, featuring a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produced 296 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The new Clubsport may match or exceed these figures.
New Design and Features
The upcoming Clubsport will feature a distinct design compared to the standard GTI. It includes redesigned headlights and an illuminated VW logo at the front. The rear will sport new taillights, and the car will ride on new standard 19-inch wheels, with optional lightweight forged 19-inch Warmenau wheels also available. Despite the camouflage in the teaser photos, the design changes are evident. Furthermore, an exclusive drive mode tailored for the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife track is among the unique features of the new Clubsport, fitting for its launch location.
