Volkswagen’s Door Guardian: Advanced Safety System to Avoid Door-Related Incidents
Volkswagen has recently introduced an innovative and highly sophisticated exit warning system designed to enhance their vehicles’ safety. The system is precisely engineered to mitigate the risk of accidents when passengers, especially children and cyclists, inadvertently open the door into the path of oncoming traffic. The exit warning system employs sensors that detect approaching vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists and immediately alert the passengers with a warning signal if they attempt to open the door in the presence of potential danger. This advanced safety feature is another testament to Volkswagen’s commitment to providing a secure and reliable driving experience.
Volkswagen’s Advanced Safety System
Volkswagen’s latest assist system is now available as a standard feature in the all-electric ID.7 and in the new Passat and Tiguan models. This cutting-edge technology is designed to provide drivers with enhanced safety and convenience on the road, utilizing advanced sensors and algorithms to detect potential hazards and assist with various driving tasks. With the new assist system, Volkswagen sets a new standard for intelligent driving and paving the way for a safer, more connected driving experience.
The exit warning system is an advanced safety feature built to provide a reliable and efficient solution for the potential hazards that can arise while exiting a stationary vehicle. This system is designed to alert the driver of approaching road users, allowing them to exit the vehicle safely. This warning system is particularly useful in situations when a passenger is about to exit the vehicle and another road user is approaching from behind. In such scenarios, the exit warning system can issue warnings in various stages, providing the occupants ample time to exit the vehicle safely and avoid potential accidents.
In highly populated cities, navigating through traffic can be extremely challenging, especially for cyclists, who are more vulnerable to accidents caused by opening vehicle doors. With the help of the exit warning system, cyclists can feel more secure while on the road. This innovative technology works wonders in alerting drivers of the presence of cyclists so that they can avoid opening doors abruptly and endangering the lives of others on the road.
The latest versions of the Passat and Tiguan now come equipped with an exit warning system that functions similarly to the one found in the ID.7. This safety feature utilizes the LED light located in the exterior mirror to signal to the driver and passengers if a road user is approaching from behind, even before the door handle is operated. If the handle is still pulled, an acoustic warning will sound from the corresponding door’s speaker. While both models have mechanical door locks, they do not offer the added benefit of the door opening delay feature that the ID.7 does.Â
For those interested in the exit warning system, it can be selected as an optional feature in the ID.4 and ID.5. The system functions almost identically to the one in the ID.7, with the exception that the LED light will only activate in cases of danger when a passenger pulls on a door handle. All other warning levels, such as the acoustic signal and electronic opening delay, remain unchanged and consistent with the ID.7.
