Volkswagen will Launch an ID.Tiguan

The Volkswagen Tiguan is a very successful SUV in the automaker’s lineup. Now the crossover will live on to conquer the EV segment. The future electric Tiguan will come to life at the German automaker’s primary plant in Wolfsburg, and the SUV will be known as the ID.Tiguan.
Welcome the idea of the ID.Tiguan
“We have iconic brand names, we will stick with the ID logic, but iconic models will carry a name.”
– Thomas Shafer, Volkswagen CEO of Passenger Cars
The automakers released some exciting news during a committee meeting at the VW Wolfsburg headquarters. For starters, the German automaker revealed that the future EV will be assembled at the OG factory by 2026. The electric Tiguan will mimic its ICE engine brethren in size and appeal. Further, the Volkswagen ID.Tiguan will transit on the new and improved MEB+ platform.
The news comes off the heels of the German automaker reimagining the ID.2, exclusive to the European market. In addition, VW hinted that the electric crossover would carry an uncanny resemblance to the legendary Golf. Eventually, the future hatchback will evolve into the electric segment as the Volkswagen ID.Golf. The upcoming hatchback is no shock to enthusiasts since most yearned for an EV spin-off of the Golf, Golf GTI, and Tiguan. For now, the German automaker has yet to confirm nor deny the future EV. However, it is more than likely that the SUV will likely be known as the ID.Tiguan. The Volkswagen ID.Tiguan will act as a tactical strategy for the German automakers’ electrification goals until the flagship Trinity EV comes to completion.
“The Golf is an icon – a whole generation was named after it. That’s why we also want to bring vehicles like the Golf and the Tiguan into the electric age.”
-Oliver Blume, Volkswagen CEO
So What’s Up with the Volkswagen Trinity?
The Trinity was originally slated to debut in 2026, adhering to the distinction of “revolutionizing Volkswagen,” according to the previous CEO Herbert Diess. Still, software issues put a pause on those Trinity plans. Yet, the halt didn’t stop VW from kindling a five-year investment project to enrich electric vehicle production and reevaluate its software. Furthermore, the new VW CEO, Oliver Blume, feels the undertaking will cross the production line before the decade ends.
The Volkswagen ID.Tiguan will fill the gaps the Trinity left behind, launching in 2026.
