Volkswagen Group announced its plan to create a new company in the United States. The building of these vehicles will be set into motion for 2026. The company will be creating fully electric trucks and SUVs.
Volkswagen’s Bold Move into the Electric Vehicle (EV) Market
Volkswagen will construct the Scout Motors site in South Carolina. This $2 billion plant is estimated to establish 4,000 jobs. The factory will also produce approximately 200,000 EVs a year. This new plant will be Volkswagen’s second manufacturing facility in America, but it will only focus on creating Scout models.
A New Era for Scout
The former CEO of Volkswagen in America, Scott Keogh, currently the president and CEO of Scout Motors made it clear that he’s committed to this plan.
“We think there is a possibility for an authentic, really physical connection. We feel we can make a car that can do it. Yes, it’s got a little bit of nostalgia to it but of course we are bringing it into the future and modernizing it.”
–Scott Keogh, Scout Motors President/CEO
The Scout brand is a well-known nameplate, esteemed in the 1960s and ’70s as an off-road vehicle–solid and determined. This new plant is expected to manufacture all-electric pickups and rugged SUVs carrying the Scout brand name alongside non-electric Volkswagen vehicles.
How Dedicated is Volkswagen to American Manufacturing?
Details of the all-new plans are far between; however, the Volkswagen Group stated that the primary Scout electric-powered pickup truck and SUV could be designed and engineered in America. The company’s factory in Chattanooga, Tennessee, produces the ID.4 SUV, a smooth and striking EV boasting spaciousness, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

They started creating the ID.4 SUV in July 2022. The plan for this vehicle was to assemble 7,000 electric automobiles a month, but this number should grow during 2023. The company has already been top-tier in technological advancement. The new electric trucks and SUVs coming to Scout Motors are bound to be state-of-the-art like their predecessors.
What to Expect from Scout Motors
Volkswagen took control of Scout Motors in 2021. The factory announcements provide few vehicle details, leaving consumers guessing what these new vehicles entail. Still, Keogh’s words suggest that all-electric outdoor fun is on the horizon. It will be challenging for these vehicles to be on the market in just a few years, but the company plans to create, develop, and manufacture all these EVs in the coming years.
