This is because 2WD vehicles have a fixed axle, generally in the back, that keeps the other two wheels pointing straight forward, preventing them from becoming misaligned. 4WD and AWD vehicles have four wheels that can turn, rendering all of them vulnerable to misalignment. This is when we would perform a four-wheel alignment on a vehicle. For any vehicle, we make sure that all moving wheels are pointed in the right direction.
There are three angles in which your car’s wheels can move, called camber, caster, and toe. They have to do with the angle of the top of your wheels relative to the side of the car, how far forward or back your wheel’s shocks are rotated, and where the front of the tire is pointing relative to the side of your vehicle. We measure all three of these angles and then restore them to the angles that Volkswagen recommends for your car’s tires.
