Trims and Engines

All models for the 2022 Taos are equipped with a 1.5 L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 158hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel-drive models utilize an eight-speed automatic transmission while all-wheel-drive models rely on a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.  The Taos is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60mph in just under eight seconds. Volkswagen’s trim offering for the Taos is limited to just three models: the S, SE, and SEL, but offers plenty of configuration options.

Driving Modes

Drivers are not limited to just driving on paved roads, because of the Taos’ drive mode selector, it can traverse over multiple types of terrain. With a total of four driving modes to choose from, which includes snow mode, on-road, off-road, and off-road custom, the driver is able to adjust vehicle responsiveness to adapt to different road conditions and terrain types with just a turn of a dial. This feature is the most useful when paired with the all-wheel-drive model for the most possible traction and grip.

Exterior Design

From certain angles, the 2022 Taos resembles styling from Volkswagen’s luxury brand, Audi. The Taos has an eye-catching and sport-like appearance that gives it a youthful look all-around. It has 17-inch alloy wheels featuring a multi-square design and an available illuminated front grille that gives it a prominent presence at night. Upgrading to the SEL trim rewards drivers with standard 18-inch black alloy wheels and LED headlights. There are eight exterior colors to choose from giving buyers more than enough options for customization.

Practical for Everyday Use

The Taos is all about utility and has generous cargo space for groceries, recreational equipment/supplies, luggage for travel, and so much more. It also has admirable fuel economy numbers for its class with 28mpg city, 36mpg highway, and 31mpg of mixed driving. With its 15.3 gal fuel tank, this family SUV is good for about 470 miles before it needs to refuel.

Infotainment & Media

Inside the cabin is a standard 6.5-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone charging, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. All trim levels also receive an 8-inch digital instrument display but can be upgraded to the 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro on the higher trims.  Ambient interior lighting is also available along with an eight-speaker BeatsAudioⓇ System for listening to music in high quality. Other features include a push-button start, a rear-view camera, and an optional panoramic sunroof.

Safety Features & Warranty Coverage

 IQ.DRIVE is Volkswagen’s driver assistance and safety suite that is available on all trim levels. Buying a Taos means drivers can get going on the road with confidence because of its built-in forward-collision warning system, automatic emergency braking,  blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. Automatic high beams are available, but only on models with adaptive headlights. The Taos comes with a 4yr/50,000mi basic warranty and a 4yr/50,000mi powertrain warranty.
