2022 Volkswagen Lineup Receives a Technological Revamp

The Lineup 

Volkswagen of America announced changes amongst the 2022 lineup. Many of the models received a standard Volkswagen Digital Cockpit and IQ.DRIVE as a standard. 

The IQ.DRIVE advanced driver assistance technology features hands-on semi-automated features. For example, when driving on the highway, the IQ.DRIVE provides lane centering and touchscreen steering that appeals to smoother driving through the city. In addition, the IQ.DRIVE alerts the driver of obstacles in front of the Volkswagen and monitors the vehicle’s surroundings. 

IQ.DRIVE would be nothing without the use of front and rear radar, the front camera, and several ultrasound radars gathering data about the surrounding area.

IQ.DRIVE also includes: 

• Travel Assist (semi-automated driving assistance) 
• Front Assist (Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking with a Pedestrian Monitor) 
• Active Blind Spot Monitor
• Rear Traffic Alert
• Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) Stop and Go 
• Lane Assist (Lane Keeping System) 
• Emergency Assist (semi-automated vehicle assistance in case of a medical emergency) 

Arteon 

The 2022 Arteon receives three trim levels: SE R-Line, SEL R-Line, and SEL Premium R-Line. The Arteon features the new 2.0-liter TSI engine producing 300-horsepower and 295-lb-ft of torque. The previous Arteon provided 268-horsepower and 258-lb-ft of torque. There’s also the seven-speed DSG transmission with Tiptronic, the previous model carried just the eight-speed automatic transmission. 

The base model offers new 18-inch wheels, front and rear Park Distance Control, and wireless charging. The SEL R-Line receives 4Motion AWD (standard), and 20-inch dark graphite wheels (optional). 

The Arteon pricing starts at $41,190 and that includes destination fees. 

Atlas 

The Atlas receives six different trims for 2022: SE, SE with Technology, SEL, SEL R-Line, SEL R-Line Black, and SEL Premium R-Line. 

The base model receives an 8-inch Digital Cockpit. The SE with Technology installed USB-C ports for the third row, a trailer hitch for models with the VR6 engine, and also a 20-inch black wheel option. 4Motion is included with every trim level and so are yjr 20-inch wheels.  

The Atlas 2.0 liter starts at $34,670 for FWD and $36,570 for 4Motion AWD and that’s including destination fees. 

Atlas Cross Sport

The Atlas Cross Sport is equipped with the same features as the Atlas, the only real difference being pricing. The Cross Sport starts at $33,970 for FWD and $35,870 for 4Motion AWD.

Golf GTI 

The 2022 Golf GTI is brand spanking new with the Mk8 design providing a longer vehicle and a snazier appeal. The GTI has all new electronic engineering with a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro, touch interfaces, 30-color ambient lighting and head-up display (optional). 

The GTI comes to life with the 2.0-liter cylinder EA888 engine. The engine generates 241-horsepower and 273-lb-ft of torque. Six-speed manual is an option and so is the seven-speed DSG transmission.  In addition, there are a few adaptive features such as electronic stability control (ESC) and electronic differential lock (XDS), which attunes the driver’s wheel damping 200 times a second, providing precision handling. 

The 2022 golf GTI will start at $30,540 for manual transmission and $31,340 for DSG. 

Golf R 

The Golf R carries the same features and appeal as the new 2022 Golf GTI. The difference with the R puts out 315-horsepower and 295-lb-ft of torque with DSG and 280-lb-ft of torque with manual. All-wheel drive comes equipped as a standard. The Golf R also receives two brand new driving modes for the track Drift and Special. 

The manual transmission starts at $44,640 and $45,440 for the DSG, and that includes destination fees. 

Passat

The 2022 Passat will be available in three trims: SE, R-Line, and an all-new Limited Edition. The Limited Edition consists of a striking exterior and interior design that enriches the model’s history and acknowledges the hard work of those involved in creating the Passat.

The Limited Edition will receive 1,973 Limited Edition models acknowledging the first year the Passat was released in Germany. In addition, the Limited Edition gets a unique set of 18-inch wheels, black mirror caps, a unique cup holder, and seat tags that read “1 of 1973” on one side and “VW Chattanooga Since 2011” on the other side.     

The Passat starts at $28,290, and that includes the destination fee. 

Taos

The all-new Taos is offered in three trims: S, SE, and SEL. 

The Taos offers the same features as the Tiguan but in a smaller package and a more frugal price tag. All variations of the Taos are powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged and direct-injection EA211 TSI engine that generates 158-horsepower and 184-lb-ft of torque. There are so many fascinating features to the Taos, such as geometry turbocharging providing excellent fuel economy. Additionally, the SUV offers flexible passenger and cargo space, practicality, and endless possibilities. 

The 2022 Taos can be found at any Volkswagen dealership, and the starting price begins at $24,190 for FWD and $26,235 with 4Motion AWD.      

Tiguan 

The 2022 Tiguan will be offered in four trims: S, SE, SE R-Line Black, and SEL R-Line. In addition, the Tiguan received a facelift with an all-new front end and illuminated light line lodged within the grille. The interior was also revised with Car-Net, heated front seats, wireless App-Connect, and Climatronic Touch Interface (standard on the SE and up). 

The Tiguan starts at $27,190 for FWD and $29,690 for 4Motion AWD, including destination fees.
