Volkswagen Teases 2025 Golf Facelift for 2024 CES Debut

The latest camouflaged prototype of the facelifted Golf comes with new lights and bumpers that blend in seamlessly. The updated version also boasts a larger touchscreen and, thankfully, ditches the Mk8’s touch-sensitive steering wheel buttons, which were less than popular with drivers.

2025 Golf Facelift

Volkswagen fans worldwide eagerly anticipate the release of the highly anticipated Mk8.5 Golf, which is set to hit showrooms later in 2024. While the official unveiling of the vehicle is not scheduled until January 2024, a series of “official” spy shots were released to whet the appetite of fans worldwide.

The images showcase the upcoming Golf GTI, set to feature the new ChatGPT infotainment technology that Volkswagen is unveiling at CES in Las Vegas this week. This new technology will be incorporated into some Volkswagen cars later this year (2024), providing drivers with a cutting-edge infotainment experience like never before.

One of the most significant updates to the Mk8.5 Golf is the interior layout, which was carefully redesigned to address criticisms of the current Mk8 model. The infotainment system has been upgraded to a larger, tablet-style display like the one seen in other recent VW cars like the ID.7, revised ID.4, and new Euro-market Passat and Tiguan. This new system is more user-friendly and intuitive, providing drivers easy access to all the features and functions they need while on the road.

Another significant improvement is the elimination of touch-sensitive steering wheel buttons that were previously prone to accidental activation during regular driving. This change was welcomed by drivers worldwide who have expressed frustration with the previous design.

Moving to the exterior of the Mk8.5 Golf, fans can look forward to a range of exciting design updates. The front bumpers now feature little hockey-stick-shaped body-color elements that reach diagonally upwards from the bottom corner of each grille, giving the vehicle a sporty and dynamic look. The rear spoiler looks like the one fitted to the Euro-market Clubsport, providing improved aerodynamics and adding to the vehicle’s sleek design. The 19-inch Estoril rims that came optional on lower-rung GTIs and were fitted as standard to North America’s 380 are also a welcome addition.

While the Mk8.5 Golf is set to feature a range of exciting design updates, some fans may be disappointed to hear that the manual-shift transmission option has already been withdrawn in Europe and won’t be available on U.S. cars after the 2024 model year. Volkswagen has not yet outlined what powertrain changes it’s making for the Mk8.5, so there may still be some exciting surprises for fans.
