It’s official: Volkswagen has launched pre-sales for the improved ID.4 and ID.5 (available solely in the European markets). The new generation of all-electric SUVs ushers in new infotainment systems and software. Additionally, the VW EVs offer a new drive system for all Pro and GTX versions, offering significantly more power and reducing energy consumption. The high-efficiency drive was initially introduced for the ID.7, but now it’s incorporated into the ID.4 and ID.5 models, boosting their combined WLTP range to 340 and 345 miles, respectively. Volkswagen has maintained the same base prices for the optimized models as their predecessors (2022 models), significantly improving the price-performance ratio of the ID.4 and ID.5.

“Our customers can look forward to exceptional technical performance with the new ID.4 and the new ID.5. Software and infotainment are state-of-the-art. In addition, there are extensive assistance systems that leave nothing to be desired. The further improved ID.4 and ID.5 models are at the top of the segment with their new technologies and the acknowledged balance of driving, comfort and spaciousness.”

Volkswagen has significantly improved the cockpit of its ID.4 and ID.5 models. The latest-generation software is much faster and provides more functions. The German automaker upgraded the SUV’s infotainment system with a 12.9-inch diagonal screen. The new menu structure is immersive, and the Digital Cockpit and augmented reality head-up display have also been enhanced.

The air conditioning and volume control touch sliders illuminate, and the multifunction steering wheel has a new operating logic. The driving mode selector is now separate from the Digital Cockpit and designed as a steering column switch, creating more space for the larger infotainment display.

Thanks to the new IDA voice assistant, the ID.4 and ID.5 models are now easier to operate. IDA responds more accurately to natural voice commands and offers new functions such as cloud-based weather information, the status of sports events, and stock market prices. Furthermore, Volkswagen now offers a new premium sound system from Harman Kardon as an option for both models, with 480 Watts of music output and ten speakers.

The high-efficiency drive is the latest technology upgrade in all VW ID.4 and ID.5 models with a 77 kWh battery (net). The latest battery consists of a new electric drive motor on the rear axle, which has reduced energy consumption and increased power. The ID.4 Pro and ID.5 Pro rear-wheel-drive models now have an electric drive motor with 210 kW (286 PS)(2), 60 kW more power than the previous models. The torque of the 210 kW drive motor has increased from 230 to 400 lb-ft of torque, which is equivalent to about 75 percent more torque. The increase in torque makes the power delivery more dynamic in every situation. The all-wheel-drive ID.4 Pro 4MOTION(3) now has a system power of 210 kW (286 PS)(3), with the new rear electric drive motor and an additional drive motor on the front axle, which is an increase of 15 kW (21 PS).

The ID.4 GTX(3) and ID.5 GTX(3) are the flagship models known for their sporty look and all-wheel drive. Soon, both models will have a system power of 250 kW (340 PS), 30 kW (41 PS) more than their current power. VW significantly enhanced the dynamic characteristics of the SUVs, making the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h faster. The GTX models can finish the sprint in just 5.4 seconds(4), beating the six-second mark. The maximum speed of the Pro models has increased from 100 mph to 110 mph to match the GTX models. The ID.4 base model’s drive remains unchanged, with the ID.4 Pure having a maximum speed of 110 mph with its 125 kW motor (170 PS).

The latest ID.4 and ID.5 models now have an improved 77 kWh battery that offers an extended range. The new ID.4 Pro, for example, can travel up to 340 miles (1) (WLTP combined), which is an increase of 10 miles compared to the previous model (2022 Volkswagen ID.4). Similarly, the new ID.5 Pro boasts a range of up to 340 miles. The all-wheel-drive models now feature a DC charging capacity that has increased from 181 to 235 HP. However, the ID.4 and ID.5 models with rear-wheel drive still charge with the familiar 135 kW. With the maximum charging capacity, these ID. versions can add enough energy for 110 miles in about 10 minutes. Further, the base version ID.4 Pure now offers a charging capacity of up to 115 kW, an increase from the previous 110 kW.
