The Volkswagen ID family is a powerhouse on the verge of expansion. However, when it comes to body, the ID family always delivers like the voluptuous ID.4 compact and the resurrection of the funky retro minivan, the ID.Buzz. Now, Volkswagen looks to take over another segment the automaker already dominates with the ID.Aero mid-size sedan. Although the first official glimpse of the ID.Aero derives from the concept vehicle; the production model is underway. Moreover, the production model will feature the same MEB platform as the other vehicles.
Let’s dig into the VW ID.Aero’s name. The electric sedan puts the Aero in aerodynamics qualities because the sedan harbors a coefficient drag of 0.23. Many enthusiasts will cling to the Mercedes-Benz EQ’s drag coefficient of 0.20; however, the Benz EQ is plenty slippery. Additionally, the 0.23 drag coefficient should increase the range since the more extensive Volkswagen ID.4 earned an EPA rating of 275 miles of range. Furthermore, According to Volkswagen, the ID.Aero will deliver a range of 385 miles.
The ID.Aero stretches 190 inches long which measures almost the same size as its older sibling, the VW Passat. The Aero’s dynamics mimic the sustainable siblings that came before it with similar headlights, taillights, chrome trim encompassing the roofline, a black roof, and its side surfacing. Additionally, the ID.Aero’s concept vehicles display touch-sensitive door handles and commanding 22-inch wheels that may not find their way through the production line. However, whatever alterations Volkswagen makes will not diverge from the concept. Moreover, we know little to nothing about the Aero’s interior.
The ‘Das Auto’ automaker claims that the sedan will serve as the ID flagship. In addition to the Aero serving as the family jewel, the electric sedan will make its way to Europe, China, and North America. Expect to see the Volkswagen ID.Aero sometime next year (2023).
