Last week (April 18th, 2022), Volkswagen Group announced that it sold 65 percent of its electric vehicles in Q1 of 2022, compared to the same timeframe in 2021. Given recent supply chain discrepancies, the first three months of 2022 for Volkswagen’s electric vehicle sales prove the automaker is unwavering. Yet, of course, the force behind the German automaker’s success comes as no surprise, and the Volkswagen ID.4 sold 30,300 units.

There was a global total of 99,100 EVs sold. The Volkswagen electric crossover made close to 31 percent of all-electric sales for the German automaker and its sister brands (Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, Porsche, SEAT, and Škoda). Trailing behind the ID.4’s success was the ID.3, with a global sales total of 13,000. Then the Audi Q4 e-tron, which grossed 10,700, the Audi e-tron gained 10,300 sales, earning in last place the Porsche Taycan, with a total of 9,500 sold.

The data implies what real enthusiasts are already aware of, the German engineers of Volkswagen produce the best-selling vehicles at an exceptional velocity. The ‘Das Auto’ automaker delivered 53,400 EVs in Q1 of 2022. Slowly creeping behind is the Audi with 24,200, Porsche with 9,500, Skoda with 8,800, and SEAT with 2,200.

Volkswagen continues to persevere as the strongest EV automaker of all its siblings, with 58,400 EVs sold in the European market from January until March of 2022. Additionally, the Volkswagen EVs procured a 33.5 percent increase compared to its 2021 earnings.

The Volkswagen Group EV’s popularity grew to an astounding 360.5 percent in the last three months, with a little over 28,000 vehicles acquired by a few ecstatic enthusiasts in China. Furthermore, the electric crossover superseded its 2021 sales in China, with last year only achieving 6,200 EVs delivered. Additionally, China is a significant consumer of EVs, and the country plays a vital role in the automotive industry.

Although the ID.4 didn’t attain any compelling numbers for the US, there was a 16.2 percent increase in EV sales. In Q1 of 2022 for the US, 7,900 electric vehicles found their forever homes compared to 2021’s 6,800 EVs. However, Volkswagen will begin producing electric cars in its US factory, so expect to see sales increase dramatically.
