The Volkswagen Amarok Looks to the Ford Ranger for Inspiration

The 2022 Volkswagen Amarok is a midsize truck charmed by the Ford Ranger. Even though the Volkswagen pickups exterior looks nothing like the Ford Ranger, the mechanics are identical. Moreover, VW plans to duplicate the Ford Ranger Raptor Fighter with or without Ford’s assistance. According to the Drive, the ‘Das Automaker’ envisions the Amarok pickup evolving into a competitive off-road pickup. Similarly, Volkswagen probed into a series of other options to assemble this dream into a reality.

The Volkswagen Amarok and its Ford Raptor Engine

Although the Volkswagen Amarok carries a notable similarity to the new Ford Ranger, it lacks a vital component, the Ranger Raptors parts. So, of course, Volkswagen would appreciate Ford granting the ‘Das automaker’ access to the Raptor’s hardware. However, if access to the hardware doesn’t go as planned, Volkswagen will produce a Raptor rival that Ford wished they supported.

Walkinshaw Performance is an Australian company that holds historical ties to Volkswagen. The Walkinshaw and VW collaboration developed the tuned W-Series Amarok pickup. The Amarok W-Series employed tune suspensions and steering plus underbody protection and aesthetic transformations. Even though the Ford Raptor’s hardware seems to be a better option for the German engineers, another collaboration with Walkinshaw Performance has a nice ring to it.

The partnership with Walkinshaw Performance sounds like the spark plugs that will ignite the off-roading Amarok to life. Yet, even with a pickup segment filled with an array of off-road models, Volkswagen and Walkinshaw’s brilliance pushes for a pickup unlike any other. Moreover, social media would send enthusiasts into a frenzy over comparisons of the Volkswagen Amarok and Ford Raptor.

If Volkswagen and Ford agree to the Amarok utilizing the Ranger’s hardware, sales will skyrocket. The pickup has welcomed much attention since VW mentioned the Ford Ranger’s influence on the Amarok. Furthermore, the Volkswagen Amarok may serve as the perfect substitution since the Ford Bronco Raptor is a hot commodity.

Will the Volkswagen Amarok Make its Way to America?

The 2023 Volkswagen Amarok may attain a 2.0-liter twin-turbo four-cylinder engine like the Ford Ranger. However, there’s also the assumption that the Volkswagen pickups base trim will feature the 3.0-liter TDI V6 engine.

The Volkswagen pickup will ride on the same platform as the Ford Ranger. The powertrains may acquire a six-speed manual transmission plus the optional ten-speed automatic transmission with 4×2 or 4×4.

Volkswagen wants to provide an off-road model and a plug-in hybrid option. Additionally, the PHEV pickup will feature a turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine with one electric motor at a minimum. Since these are all speculations, there’s no doubt that nothing is for sure. Neither is the indication that the Volkswagen Amarok will find its way to America. We will know more once Volkswagen debuts the new Amarok.
