The new Volkswagen electric SUV sold like hot cakes on its first day
So we finally got the good news that the new Volkswagen SUV, the ID.4 1st edition hit the US market, but the other side of that news isn’t as good: it sold out like hot cakes the day of its debut.
After so much buzz and a long wait, the second fully electric Volkswagen vehicle made its debut earlier this week. The reveal of the new Volkswagen ID.4 was an amazing online event that excited fans across the US.
The excitement was so big that the ID.4 sold out in eight hours, and the Volkswagen website crashed because it couldn’t keep up with the high volume. It was a completely unexpected outcome that left Volkswagen apologizing on social media for not being able to handle the demand for its new electric SUV.
But what makes the ID.4 so irresistible? Let’s explain a little bit; this SUV is powered by an electric motor located at the rear of the vehicle, which brings candid memories of the original Beetle. This engine delivers 201 horsepower and 228 lb-ft of torque. The 2700-pound towing capacity of the ID.4 surpsases its competitors by 700 pounds.
Furthermore, the battery is located at the bottom of the SUV; this location is perfect for its size and weight, and it provides a low center of gravity making the ID.4 a very stable SUV. Talking about battery, for your peace of mind, Volkswagen offers a 3-year free nationwide charging for the ID.4
Looking at the inside of the Volkswagen ID.4, we immediately feel like we’re in a spaceship. The dashboard and steering wheel feature a silver-white color combination that gives a futuristic vibe. There is a 10 to 12-inch center display and a 5-inch display behind the steering wheel that can be operated by voice or gestures. Another unique trait of the Volkswagen ID.4 1st Edition is found on its pedals. The pedal for gas has a “play” sign engraved while the brake pedal has the “pause” symbol. This machine comes also with on-board Wi-Fi, which it is a must, as well as wireless cellphone charging.
The price for the Volkswagen ID.4 1st Edition starts at $43,995 plus destination fee, but keep in mind that there is a federal tax credit of up to $7500, and depending on the state you live in, you could get even more credits.
The lucky ones who were able to make a reservation on the ID.4 (before the website collapsed) will receive their new SUV later this year. For the first quarter of 2021, Volkswagen will launch the ID.4 Pro starting at $39,995, and later on they will launch a more powerful AWD variant with 302 hp at the price of $43,695.
