The All-New 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan Arrives in New Zealand with Fresh Updates and Trims

The Volkswagen Tiguan continues to be a favorite among premium SUV buyers, and now, a brand-new version has arrived in New Zealand.

The updated Tiguan’s initial editions have made their debut in the country, with Volkswagen’s local division unveiling new pricing and specifications.

At launch, the refreshed Tiguan is available in two trims: the entry-level Life and the more athletic Style trim. Both trims have a turbocharged 1.4-liter petrol engine that produces 110kW of power and 250Nm of torque. Any electrified model is a significant absence in the new Tiguan lineup. Although Volkswagen offers the Tiguan in both eTSI mild hybrid and eHybrid plug-in hybrid versions overseas, neither will be available initially in New Zealand. Volkswagen’s local branch has previously emphasized the moderately successful selling the fully-electric ID.4 and ID.5 models, despite earlier predictions that these would become the brand’s bestsellers in New Zealand.

Global struggles with EV sales have shifted back towards hybrids, making the mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid Tiguan variants appear particularly suitable for a market like New Zealand.

In addition to the absence of electrified options, a high-performance Tiguan R is on the horizon, likely sharing components with the Golf R. All-wheel drive options are also expected to become available later. The Tiguan features a more straightforward interior layout alongside its new exterior and updated MQB platform. Volkswagen has avoided the controversial haptic feedback buttons prevalent in the previous model.

The interior of the new Tiguan includes numerous physical buttons on the steering wheel, a 12.9-inch touchscreen, a digital cockpit, ambient lighting, and more. R-Line customers can also choose the Touring Package, which offers massage front seats, a Harman Kardon sound system, a heated steering wheel, and a panoramic sunroof.

The new Tiguan faces competition from a growing list of rivals, including the Lexus NX, its Audi Q3 and Skoda Kodiaq relatives, and the upscale Mazda CX-60.
