The 2024 VW Atlas Cross Sport Gets An Upgraded Look
The favorite mid-size two-row SUV looks better inside and out.
Updated 2024 Atlas Cross Sport
For folks who need a spacious SUV but not a huge family bus, the two-row Cross Sport looks like the better option for 2024 and features an upgraded but newly-improved interior. The 2024 Atlas now has 269 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. VW still claims a towing capability of 5000 pounds, and the turbo four moves the large Atlas Cross Sport more than adequately. The transmission downshifts promptly, and the throttle reaction is good. Plus, the brand-new four-cylinder has better fuel economy. It’s EPA-rated at 23 mpg blended with front-wheel drive and 22 mpg with the optionally available all-wheel-drive system.
Exterior and Interior
Styling has been Atlas‘ strong suit, and things have only gotten better. Generally speaking, it strikes a traditional SUV appearance, with sharp character lines alongside the flanks that lend presence. New LED light banks are similarly highlighted by an illuminated light bar that spans the width of the automobile and is centered by a bright VW logo. A restyled four-bar chrome grille on most trims stands out. Peak Editions are similarly differentiated with multiple unique colors, Avocado Green and Pure Gray, and other trim pieces provide an extra outdoorsy appearance. Depending on the model, a redesigned range of wheel-and-tire setups is available from 18 to 21 inches. The cabin has become a significant focus for the 2024 refresh, and it seems and feels a lot nicer. The dashboard features extra soft-touch materials, the higher trim levels are available with quilted leather-based seats, and there are metal and faux-carbon-fiber trim pieces that add visible interest to the center console and door panels. The rear seat remains huge, and regardless of the sloping roofline, there are 40 cubic feet of area within the cargo space, even with the seats up. The sense of area is magnified when lowering the fold-flat, 60/40-split second-and third-row seats to the tune of 96.6 cubic feet of cargo area.
In the driver’s line of sight is a new 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit device panel, a first to show up on the VW Atlas, and a 12.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display consisting of VW’s cutting-edge suite of entertainment and technology capabilities as standard throughout the board. Up to eight USB-C ports, as is a wireless charging pad, are available depending on trim. Underneath the center console is a large stowage area made viable in part by the shift-by-wire equipment selector. Other tech-forward features consist of VW’s Car-Net, which permits remote access to the automobile and a wireless hotspot, and its IQ.Drive driver assistance technologies. The 2024 Atlas allows the premium experience with a head-up display, leather-based upholstery and trim, heated and ventilated front-row seats and heated second-row seats, and 30-color interior ambient lighting.
