The 2021 Volkswagen Arteon is a 2021 TOP SAFETY PICK

April 22nd, 2021 by

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) deemed the 2021 Volkswagen Arteon a 2021 TOP SAFETY PICK when outfitted with LED headlights and Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS) with dynamic cornering lights. Volkswagen’s AFS with dynamic cornering lights features is standard on the SEL R-Line and SEL Premium R-Line trims (unavailable on the entry-level SE trim). In order to earn TOP SAFETY PICK status, vehicles must have good ratings in each of IIHS’s six crashworthiness tests. Vehicles put to the test must also feature good or acceptable headlights and have available front crash mitigation that earns advanced or superior ratings. The 2021 Volkswagen Arteon earned good ratings in all six crashworthiness assessments. Additionally, the automaker’s Front Assist system is standard on all Arteon trims and earned a superior rating in both its front crash mitigation and vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention.

Advanced Safety Features

Volkswagen offers buyers advanced safety features such as Forward Collision Warning with Pedestrian Monitoring, intended to warn drivers of possible frontal collisions with both vehicles and pedestrians. Forward Collision Warning alerts drivers to potential frontal collisions with a visual warning symbol in the instrument cluster and an audible chime when the vehicle is traveling over 18 mph. If there’s no reaction from the driver, the brakes automatically jolt as a warning. Furthermore, if the brakes jolting don’t elicit a response and the driver fails to brake, the Automatic Emergency Braking system engages and helps slow down the vehicle. When the vehicle is traveling below 18 mph and the system detects a collision is imminent it automatically engages Autonomous Emergency Braking without any warning. The system also engages when the brakes are applied too lightly when mitigating a collision and the Braking Support automatically increases the brake pressure.

Volkswagen also offers other driver assistance features on its 2021 Arteon, including standard Blinnd Spot Monitoring and Rear Traffic Alert, while other available options include Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping System, High Beam Control, Park Distance Control, and an Overhead View Camera. Passive and active safety systems, including eight standard airbags and an array of other standard electronic safety systems, work in tandem to give Arteon drivers peace of mind. Volkswagen also offers an Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Stability Control, and the brand’s Automatic Post-Collision Braking System.
