Stateside Production Commences for the Volkswagen ID.4
Volkswagen has commenced the production of its all-electric ID.4 crossover for the American market. The German automaker announced late last month (July 2022) that it intends to scale production to 7,000 vehicles per month by the end of 2022. As a result, the Chattanooga, Tennessee, factory would need to assemble 234 cars a day by the end of 2022 before increasing the automaker’s output throughout 2023.Â
According to the ‘Das Auto’ automaker, customers can anticipate ID.4 deliveries at the beginning of October (2022). Additionally, VW will start delivery of the rear- and all-wheel-drive models with the 82 kWh battery. Closer to the end of this year (2022), the Volkswagen facility will also manufacture the more moderately priced 62kWh model. For now, the German automaker assures it has delivered over 190,000 of its all-electric crossover since its premiere last year (2021).Â
Volkswagen claims last month’s milestone reflected the $800 million investment the automaker made to electrify its Chattanooga factory. Additionally, the Chattanooga factory is one of six site factories for Volkswagen’s electric facilities. In March (2022), VW announced that it would spend $7.1 billion over the next five years. The $7.1 billion expansion will keep up with the increase in demand for EVs in the North American market. The German Automakers intend for electric vehicles to comprise close to 55 percent of its sales in North America by 2030. So we have eight years to wait and see.  Â
What to Know About the 2022 Volkswagen ID.4Â
Electric vehicles continue to climb the popularity mountain, and Volkswagen is at the forefront of the growing transition. The 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 is one of many of the German automaker’s EVs to cruise the US. The base model comes standardly equipped with rear-wheel drive (RWD) and a rear-mounted electric motor delivering 201 horsepower and 250 miles of range. The all-wheel drive (AWD) variation possesses motors in both axles, generating 295 horsepower and producing 230 miles.  Â
Acceleration is mild compared to a more spirited jolt which is the outcome of the electric crossover’s mass. However, the ID.4 Sport trim is a little more reactive. The real point of focus for the Volkswagen ID.4 lies within convenience. The electric crossover is insulated from the outside; the SUV maintains a tranquil cabin. When sufficiently equipped, the ID.4 tows up to 2,700 pounds.Â
Inside the Volkswagen ID.4, the crossover materializes as conservative, but there’s plenty of room for four. The ID.4 holds 33 cubic feet behind the rear seats, fold the rear seats down, and the crossover reveals 64 cubic feet. Â
The VW ID.4’s standard safety features include forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and rear cross-traffic alert. In addition to its impeccable safety features, the ID.4 holds a $7,500 federal tax credit. Moreover, ID.4 enthusiasts receive three years of unlimited charging at any Electrify America fast chargers. These Electrify America chargers radiate a battery capacity of 80 percent in less than 40 minutes.Â
