Europe will get a small taste of the new ID. Buzz this year with 15,000 units being produced before production begins to ramp up within the following year of 2023. Production on the ID. Buzz’s European version will begin in Hannover, Germany just ahead of the stateside arrival of the model in 2024. It’s been just about five years since the initial concept was revealed and Germany will finally get to experience the first series production roll-off of the assembly line.
Production of the ID. Buzz
The retro-styled ID. Buzz followed the ID. Buzz Cargo into production as the commercial model got a head start as it was the beginning of Volkswagen’s new chapter on the road to the electrification of its vehicles. The electric MPV was actually among the first new crop of electric vehicles that received the green light into production from Volkswagen itself, as the company began to look to its past for even more inspiration. This idea was one that was being tossed around for a bit and the 2001 Microbus concept was the one that was remembered the best.
Carson Intra, chairman of the Brand Management Board of VWCV had this to offer enthusiasts when it came to the vehicle: “The start of serial production of the all-electric ID. Buzz is an important milestone in the electrification of our fleet and for the manufacturing operation at the Hannover site. The vehicle is a key pillar in the full utilization of our factory and is thus safeguarding the future of the site.” This means that the Hannover plant is now the third Volkswagen site in Europe that will be producing the ID models, following Zwickau and Emden; with production being limited to 15,000 units and plans to accelerate that production in 2023 at the Hannover site.
U.S Production
While the US-market model won’t be unveiled to the public until some time next year, enthusiasts can expect to see the long-wheelbase, three-row trim reach the U.S by 2024 at the latest. Until then, Hannover will be producing variants of the ID. Buzz with a variety of interior layout options and a choice of two wheelbases that the public can look forward to seeing. This marks the start of a huge milestone for Volkswagen as the company continues to delve further into the EV market.
