The 2023 Volkswagen Taos is a practical subcompact crossover SUV slotted right below the Tiguan within the Volkswagen SUV lineup. The ’23 Taos offers drivers excellent fuel economy, ample cargo space, and a very comfortable ride within its cabin. Though it is a carryover vehicle that doesn’t have too many changes for the 2023 model year, it offers buyers a lot as it didn’t have to change much to remain a stand-up vehicle for families and individual drivers. The release date is still unknown, but Volkswagen has announced some upgrades coming to the Taos across its lineup. Here are some upgrades and information about the ’23 Taos as a whole!
The Volkswagen Taos is being built at the VW plant in General Pacheco, Argentina, and will offer three trims: the S, SE, and the SEL. Some upgrades coming to the Taos lineup for the 2023 model year will include standard driving assistance features across all trims, like blind-spot monitoring, rear traffic alert, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian monitoring, and forward collision warning. The Taos SEL trim will add a standard panoramic sunroof to its vehicle. The SE trim will come standard with the new IQ.DRIVE driving assistance technology and the S base trim will come equipped with the AWD (All-Wheel Drive) system upgrades from 17-inch to 18-inch wheels.
Expected Starting Costs of the ’23 Taos
The current starting price for the 2023 Volkswagen Taos crossover SUV is $24,155 (Plus Destination Fee) for the base S trim. The rest of the ’23 Taos lineup has not yet been announced, but it does cost slightly more than the 2022 Taos, which has a starting price of $23,495 (Plus Destination Fee). Each VW Taos will come standard with a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that will generate 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. Buyers can mate their engines with an eight-speed automatic transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Either option can also be equipped with either AWD or FWD (Front-Wheel Drive) systems. This is what garners Taos’s estimated gas mileage of 28mpg in the city and 36mpg on the highway.
The all-new 2023 Volkswagen Taos has no shortage of space when it comes to many of its subcompact SUV rivals, especially when it comes to its cargo area. The ’23 Taos can manage to seat up to five passengers and boasts a total passenger volume of 99.5 cu-ft. Regarding storage, the Taos also boasts a rear cargo capacity of 27.9 cu-ft and a MAX cargo capacity of 65.9 cu-ft. It is the total package for individual drivers or those looking for a spacious, family-friendly vehicle.
