As Promised, the Volkswagen ID.Buzz is Approaching

It’s been around for a little over a year but, unfortunately, has yet to make its way to North America. Of course, the electric van is already available in other parts of the world, but we’ll inherit the long-wheelbase model here on the West of the Atlantic Ocean. The best part is that we’ll finally see it in all its glory on June 2 (2023), the official debut date for the North American ID.Buzz.

VW shared its determination to ensure everyone remembers that day, both now and in the future. The German automaker’s also teaming up with The National Day Calendar to establish June 2 as the official International Volkswagen Bus Day. The Volkswagen Geminis will be celebrated yearly with fantastic classic bus gatherings and maybe even a sneak peek of the highly anticipated ID.Buzz when it finally hits the showroom floors.

“Whether you call them Buses, Bullis or Kombis, the legacy Type 2s have left on modern culture is unmatched. As we continue to introduce the T2’s 21st Century electric successor, the ID. Buzz, we’re thrilled to create this annual day of celebration for Volkswagen bus fans and enthusiasts everywhere.”

-Cameron Batten, Chief Communications Officer for Volkswagen Group in America

The latest news on North America’s electric VW van reveals not too much mystery surrounding its appearance. The smaller two-row model that debuted in Europe in March 2022 will have the same flat face, thin headlights, and trim features. While prototypes have only shown a single color for the exterior, we’re excited to see the two-tone finishes that will surely be part of the EV’s charm when the larger model is released.

That’s where things become less specific, as we’re still determining how much larger it will be. So far, it may stretch an extra 10.6 inches over stock, which doesn’t sound like much on paper, but it makes a big difference for a vehicle. In this case, it’s a big enough difference to add an extra seat in the rear.

We’re still determining the extra length of the Volkswagen ID.Buzz and how it will support its larger battery pack. The electric vehicle has an 82.0-kWh battery that powers a single electric motor, generating 201 hp. However, there are rumors that a dual-motor version with more power will be released in North America, which could require a larger 111-kWh battery to produce 300 hp.

Nonetheless, VW enthusiasts must wait a while before stretching their hands around the EV’s steering wheel. Bare with us until 2024.
