The Highly Effective APP550 Electric Drive
The Volkswagen 2025 ID.7 has a new drive generation called APP550. This highly efficient generation has improved performance, making it an exciting addition to the German automaker’s lineup. This unit has advanced technology and features that significantly improve its efficiency. One of its main components is an enhanced stator that has more effective windings and a larger wire cross-section.
The new unit developed by Volkswagen Passenger Cars’ Technical Development will also work in other MEB models. It is being produced at the Volkswagen Group Technology site in Kassel, which is the center of expertise for electric drive systems within the group. The competence center has been developing electric drives for around 15 years.
The machine is impressively equipped with advanced technology. It features a stator with increased windings, a larger wire cross-section, and a rotor with more durable permanent magnets. In addition, special electrical sheets and machining processes have been utilized to create a highly efficient system, allowing the unit to generate more power and operate seamlessly. The addition of rigid permanent magnets further enhances the rotor. The APP550 also employs special electrical sheets and advanced machining techniques to ensure optimal efficiency.
In addition to the electric drive, Volkswagen Group Technology is responsible for producing various other technological components for the MEB models of the Group brands. These crucial components include the battery system, axle systems, and chassis, which the Braunschweig, Kassel, Salzgitter, and Hanover plants supply.
Next-Gen Drive System
This cutting-edge machine boasts state-of-the-art technology, including an upgraded stator with increased windings and a larger wire cross-section. In addition, the rotor is equipped with more durable permanent magnets, and special electrical sheets and advanced machining processes are utilized to create a highly efficient system. As a result, the machine can generate more power and operate seamlessly. Moreover, its rigid permanent magnets further enhance the rotor, while the APP550 also utilizes special electrical sheets and advanced machining techniques to ensure optimal efficiency.
The Volkswagen Group Technology division combines the Group’s efforts in batteries, charging, and e-components to assist the brands. PowerCo and Elli are also associated with this division, with PowerCo focusing on battery production and Elli on charging and energy solutions. The division provides advanced technology solutions, including the new unified cell that PowerCo plans to manufacture in 2025, which will transform battery technology. Furthermore, the Platform Business collaborates with external partners, such as Ford and Mahindra.
