2022 Volkswagen Atlas VS 2022 Chevrolet Traverse

The 2022 Volkswagen Atlas contains numerous practical features and ingenious technology standing out amongst the crowd in an already competitive segment. At the same time, the 2022 Chevrolet Traverse wears the crown of one of the largest midsize SUVs within its class. However, while the Chevrolet Traverse supports more passengers than the Volkswagen Atlas, the Chevy SUV faces a gang of limitations. So let’s take a look at how the two beauties compare.

2022 Volkswagen Atlas

The 2022 Volkswagen Atlas is the perfect vehicle for customization. The Atlas revs to life in several different passenger configurations. The Volkswagen SUV proffers seating for six in passenger-style, captain’s chairs in the second row, or a bench in the second row to increase capacity to seven.

The Volkswagen Atlas welcomed a 2022 refresh of the front and rear styling. The new alteration gives the Atlas a more refined look plus three extra inches in length. Those three extra inches add more interior space for passengers, and who doesn’t love more space.

Another plus to the pristine Volkswagen Atlas is its surplus of standard safety features. Those standard features include a forward-collision warning system, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert for every model.

The base engine of the Atlas yields 235 horsepower through a turbocharged 4-cylinder. The generated horsepower may seem small for a 4,000-pound vehicle, but numbers can be deceiving. The Atlas is the aftermath of German ingenuity with its strong low-end torque coupled with smart gearing.

2022 Chevrolet Traverse

Surprisingly, the larger-than-life Chevrolet Traverse classifies as a midsize SUV, but it is considered one of the largest within the segment. The Chevy SUV is voluptuous, which translates into an admirable capacity for seven or eight passengers and 100 cubic feet of maximum cargo space. However, there’s a cautionary tale to three-row seating in the midsize segment, and not all space is ample space.

At the nose of the Chevy Traverse is our first limitation 3.6-liter V6 engine that generates 300 horsepower for those moms and dads who want to floor it when the kids aren’t around. The base layout contains front-wheel drive, and for an additional $2,000, all-wheel drive is an option. In addition, the Traverse holds a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs.

The second row of the Chevy SUV offers the optional captain’s chair, which reduces seating capacity to seven. Another limitation of the Traverse lies within the infotainment system; there isn’t anything exciting or refreshing about it. However, anyone looking for the more vintage appeal of dials and buttons instead of the touchscreen should look no further. This outdated Chevy is what the antique doctor would prescribe.

The Volkswagen Atlas or the Chevrolet Traverse?

The 2022 Volkswagen Atlas is a great time for the entire family on four wheels. The Atlas is spacious, stunning, and a step above comfort. On the other hand, although the 2022 Chevrolet Traverse is a well-equipped three-row SUV, it lacks versatility, hence the obsolete features. As the saying goes, you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.
